Library Wiki - Discovering the Possibilities

The library I studied for the Wiki portion of Assignment 1 is Nola Brantley Memorial Library in my hometown of Warner Robins, GA. The main characteristics of the Wiki are:

Library Type: Public

Population Served: 100,000+

Main Patrons: College students (there are three colleges in the area that rely on Nola Brantley Memorial Library as their main library / information center)

Services Offered: computers, internet, Wi-Fi, books, audio books, E-books, E-audio books, DVDs, VHS, C-Ds, online Test Prep, language Services (available online through Mango), circulation of Materials, reference materials (largest in Houston County), children’s story time, teen programs (i.e. video game nights), printing, copying, computer training, computer classes, online job search, and various subscriptions to online databases. E-books, computers, computer training, online job search, reference, circulation, and Wi-Fi services

Library Requirements for Wiki: Installable software, page history available, database storage, Free & Open source sharing

Wiki Goal: To allow patrons a virtual space to discuss library news, literature, research inquiries / assistance, and share relevant information for library users. The overall goal is to make library patrons feel involved at their local branch by allowing them the freedom to discuss and update information on the Wiki platform.

Wiki Chosen: Sycamore, listed on WikiMatrix.com, proves to be a good choice for the library because it meets the requirements and is intended for new users of wikis. Since the population served is rather small compared to larger cities, the Sycamore wiki system would be adequate for the small community that the library serves.
